I’ve been contemplating if I want to keep with the idea of using AI chatbots across my site. I love the idea of having life-like NPCs, and I still really want that but the current one I’ve switched to really isn’t that great and I’m having a really difficult time training it with the limited controls I have within the plugin to do so. I’m just feeling really discontented with the result, it’s been really buggy. I could switch over to one of Google’s models, which was what I originally used to test out the concept, but I really don’t want to use it for anything more than testing, because Google is, well, Google. They collect everything. And I just don’t want to give them more things to collect; especially on my own website. It’s just really unfortunate because their model was a lot better when it came to processing information with the limited training tools I have. Maybe I’ll just shelf the idea for now and wait until AI in general is a bit more advanced, in like a year or two, and then try the idea again. In the meantime, there’s a lot I can do with creating interactive NPC dialogues using javascript to world build and make my various characters and stories come to life.
.
I’m also currently in the process of testing out a lot of other things; one being auto posting to various social media networks. This was something I’ve really wanted to do for a long time and I sort of did it but it’s not really to the full extent it could be. While I don’t personally endorse the IndieWeb for certain reasons, I do appreciate a lot of the work they’re doing in this movement, and they did really inspire me with the concept of having my own website become its own silo. Instead of primarily being part of a social network owned by big tech and sharing my posts on their platforms to other platforms, I really want to make my site so it automatically cross posts to social networks, with my site being the primary source. This will allow me to be active on multiple social media channels at the same time without actually going on and using those sites directly. And if anything ever were to happen to those various social networks, it doesn’t matter because I still have all my posts on my own website. Nothing is lost.
Anyways, having my site as a silo of sorts that automatically distributes my posts to a bunch of social networks at the same time is a goal I’d like to try to achieve soon. It’s proving to be a bit more challenging than anticipated. But it is a goal I really want to achieve in the not so distant future.
Also, sort of related, I just created a Tumblr Community to go hand in hand with the Facebook group and page I’ve made. I’m trying to figure out how to schedule posts there so I can schedule the same posts to both platforms. Also challenging as Tumblr doesn’t have a scheduling feature yet for communities so until then, IF they even add it, I’m going to have to figure out a work around.
.
Anyways, that’s it for tonight. I’ll have a bulletin board post up here in the next few days running through all the recent changes around here.
