I wouldn’t be surprised if within a year or two, Facebook and other companies could start requiring everyone to give their government issued IDs to them in order to continue using their platforms. It’s optional now to get the ‘verified’ checkmark by giving them your ID, but I don’t think it will be optional in the future. Not with the direction AI is going. That’s my own speculation. The day that happens, I will not be using Facebook or any mainstream platforms that require ID verification. If anyone wants to keep up with me after that point, bookmark my website.

It’s a bit of trap, but AI gives them the perfect excuse, really. What better way to data mine sensitive, concrete, private information about you than to give them your government issued ID? Everything you post online can then be fully traced to you without question. Consider the implications this could bring. Only a few years ago, we saw Trudeau freeze bank accounts, saw police officers show up at people’s houses for attending rallies organized online. I know not all of you were in agreement with those political happenings back then, but the point is that one day the tables may turn, and you may stand up for something you believe is right and feel the government is taking very corrupt measures to achieve a certain goal. At that point though, it will not be safe to make that stand. The safety net of that degree of online anonymity, choosing to not give big tech giants your sensitive identifying information that can be used by government back doors, will all be gone. Consider the power you’re giving to these corporations before that time comes. AI is fun to mess around with and does have a lot of usefulness when it comes to productivity, but I think in the grand scheme of things it’s going to become very dangerous. Especially when it comes to political movements and uprisings against government corruption. Deep fakes as well. People won’t know what’s real and what isn’t anymore. 🤷♀️
