Don’t mind the photo spam. Setting up a new interactive photo gallery system on my site. All the photos are from earlier this year, I’m just copy pasting them from my other socials so I can house them here going forward.
I also have my site set up now to automatically post to my Mastodon and Pixelfed accounts when I make a blog post! Not quite the same as being federated, but I think it’s the closest I’m going to get. At the core, it fulfills what I want, which is my site to be a silo that houses all of my content and distributes it out to various other platforms, rather than solely relying on other social platforms to host my content for me. This way, I will always fully own my own content, and that makes me very happy.
I’m loving this little space I made for myself. ♥ It’s everything I wish social media to be. I’m sure not everyone will like how I’ve set up my site. I think a lot of people come to the small web to get away from social media, but meh. I’m not anti-social media. I’m anti-big-tech social media. If I could imagine social media to be a certain way, I think my site is a good representation of my own vision. A decentralized web space with an activity feed, social media feeds and RSS subscription options, it makes so much more sense. Sometime soon I’d really like to get a little shop set up here too where I can sell some of my digital creations, like printables I’ve made, my stock photography, canva templates, etc. and things of that sort. First and foremost, my site will always be my personal, creative hub where I can freely express myself and share my life, but if I can make a little extra here and there to help cover my hosting costs, any little bit would help.
