Updates for the end of October-November.
Massive Site Redesign
There’s a lot I want to change, organize, condense, and clean up around here. I’ve decided to completely remove my Town and Cottage domains and merge them both into my primary domain, just in different sections. Going forward, I really don’t want to have subdomains unless those subdomains have some kind of community potential where people can make accounts. Otherwise, it’s just taking up more space than necessary on my server than needed because each subdomain is its work installation. These are things I have to think about now that I’m self hosting.
Cottage Landing Page Complete & Redesigned
Changed up the Cottage landing page! It is now on my primary subdomain, though, I don’t intend to put it up until I get the other sections completed, which will definitely take awhile. It looks a bit similar to what I had before but I changed a few things. Background image at the top of the page is different and in time I do intend to automate it with the seasons. It won’t be quite as dynamic as my old subdomain background but it fits more of the warm, cozy vibe I want.
I also added string lights behind my polaroid feed, and made my yourworldoftext iframe look like a corkboard on the wall. Under all that I added something new, which is a blog feed that looks like sheets of paper with handwriting spread out on a countertop. Previously, I had an ‘activity’ page that looked like a newsfeed of sorts. I’m ditching that with my new Cottage space and just changing things up to a regular blog feed. They’re easier to back up and log this way, and more interactive as they’ll have the functionality to be marked as read, and commented on.
Redesigned Blog Template
Just made my single blog post pages to follow the same sort of handwritten/countertop theme as the overview in the cottage. I really like the way it looks, aesthetically.
Modified Footer
Modified the footer on my primary domain to fit better with other pages, not just look nice on the landing page.
Created a tunnel
I was having an issue with my public IP continuously being changed whenever we’d have a power outage or issues with our modem. This is fixed now so my site should hopefully stop going down whenever something happens with the power or internet.
Changed Cottage URL on my World Map
Since I’m eventually going to be deleting my cottage subdomain, I’ve decided to start directing people towards my new cottage section. There isn’t much there yet, but I’m going to continue to work on this area of my site and move things over. In the meantime, anyone who wants to access my old cottage can still do so for the time being at thecozy.cat/.
That’s it for October/November updates! I haven’t been working on my site quite as much lately. I’m currently trying to get my Etsy shop up and off the ground so sadly, my site is going to be taking a back seat for a little bit. I’m still around, just not super active right now. 🙂 Hope everyone is doing well and Happy Holidays!
