Haunted by the little girl he couldn’t save from imminent danger, Holder’s life has been overshadowed by feelings of guilt and remorse. He has never stopped searching for her, believing that finding her would bring him the peace he needs to move on. However, Holder could not have anticipated that he would be faced with even greater pain the moment they reconnected.
In Losing Hope, Holder reveals the way in which the events of Sky’s youth affected him and his family, leading him to seek his own redemption in the act of saving her. But it is only in loving Sky that he can finally begin to heal himself.
This was not my favorite book by Colleen Hoover, but I still think it was REALLY good and the story had a few twists I wasn’t expecting at all! In the beginning, I wasn’t too sure if I was going to be able to get into it. It felt very slow starting off but a few chapters in it started to pick up. There is A LOT of smut in this book, and don’t get me wrong, I love spice, but it was a bit more than I bargained for and at times it just seemed to be really drawn out and be too much. I noticed the chapters with the smut would be really long, while chapters without smut were really quite short in comparison. I feel like with this book there was more smut than story progression. I would have really liked to see Sky & Holder’s relationship develop deeper and be more vulnerable throughout, and I think in the end, it did when Sky’s history was revealed. In the end, everything came full circle and Losing Hope had a really satisfying ending. I just wish there was more plot and a bit less smut. Despite my criticism, I still really enjoyed this book and I’ve always been a big fan of Colleen’s writing style. It’s why she’s my favorite author! Colleen Hoover is really great at adding plot twists in her books, and I think the plot twist towards the end is what saved this book from being a 3 star read and made it a 4 star read for me because I genuinely wasn’t expecting it and it threw me. I also really like how Colleen isn’t afraid to write about heavy topics to add substance to her stories. It can be triggering for a lot of people but I think it’s important to talk about the heavy topics to bring more awareness to them, as well as the many ways people cope with these traumas.
Overall, I recommend this book. If you’re a lover of spicy novels, you’ll love this book because it’s absolutely filled with spice. Trigger warning, however, this book also discusses some heavy topics, such as suicide and sexual abuse so if those are topics that trigger wounds you are not yet ready to heal, you may want to put off reading this book for now. Other than that, like I said earlier, the later story progression will throw you in for some unexpected twists which will have you glued to the pages, and it has a happy ending. 🙂
