Updates for October 2025! No updates for September. I didn’t get to work on my site at all last month. My husband and I went through a really big life transition and we’re still in the process of settling and establishing out lives here.
Improved Site Performance
My site has been EXTREMELY slow the past little while and I’ve been experiencing a lot of server crashes. I’ve been trying to figure out a solution for it. Seems like it was a combination of a lot of issues, including my cache plugin not functioning properly, my images not serving webp versions, and some back end issues with misconfigurations. I’m still really new to self hosting so this is a learning journey for sure, but I feel like things are getting a little better.
Webring Maintenance
Completed webring maintenance for the Book Ring, the Free Speech Webring, and the Sovereign Web Ring. A few members with broken sites or widgets have been removed, as well as anyone who has removed the webring widgets from their sites. I’ve notified those with broken widgets to give people a chance to fix before I remove them. Anyone who is no longer listed in the webring directory is welcome to reapply once the functional webring script is added back to their sites.
New Email Provider
Now that I am self hosting, the email that my previous hosting provider gave me is about to expire and thus, I’m going to lose access to it in November. I’ve been trying to figure out what to do about this. I tried setting up a self hosted email, which proved to be a headache and a half and just was more trouble than it’s worth. I decided to bite the bullet and just get an external email provider, even though I’m now paying a yearly subscription of $15 for it, but that’s cheap in comparison to a lot of other providers and it’s reputable. It’s all set up now and connected to my site. I have the same email address, so nothing is really changing in terms of how to contact me. This is more of a change for me.
Fade Effect Between Pages
Added a nice, soft fade effect between page transitions across my domain & subdomains.
Anyways, that’s pretty well it for October’s updates. I know it’s not much but I’m just really busy right now and don’t have much personal time at the moment. I recently landed an incredible job opportunity designing websites for a big local company. Literally a dream job! So I’ll be starting that role in the next couple of weeks. I’ll still continue to work on my site, but until I fully transition from my retail job over to my new job, I just don’t think I’ll get a lot of time to do much around here. Life is really good though lately. 🙂
