Update #44

I wanted to continue features in some capacity, so I’ve gone ahead and made a promotional space for people who want to showcase their websites. As of this update, I still need to find a way to properly automate posts to my social media accounts. That will be one of the major things I focus on soon and may have completed before the end of the month, hopefully.

I’m REALLY excited about this update – and I’ve worked extremely hard on it. I’m experimenting with a new art medium. It’s an idea I’ve been toying with for awhile and would really like to do it more with my own photography eventually – but I’ve made an entire room scenery in Canva using various stock images, editing and arranging them to look like an actual room, and I kind of really love it! But a special little feature I added to this is a weather system – which eventually I will make my primary domain’s landing page align with it.
Every day of the week, the scenery in the window and door will change. It will change depending on the day of the week, the time of day, and even the season! Isn’t that so cool?! And when it’s raining/thunderstorming, an MP3 will play on loop of an actual recording I took of rain sounds. Haha it makes me excited! I have other plans in the works as well. I have plans for each day of the week, the weather patterns, and the seasons that will take effect site-wide across all my subdomains. I don’t know how it’s all going to pan out yet, but, I’ve started working on an evolution-style adoptables project similar to Dragcave.net. I’m not sure if I will be successful with it yet but I’ve already started creating eggs in aseprite. Still brainstorming creature ideas. But my train of thought is that some creatures will only be able to be found during certain seasons and certain weather conditions, and even only in certain areas of my website. So it will be kind of like a treasure hunt! I think this will be such a fun way to expand on my realm’s lore, give it more life, and just make my site feel more fun and magical. Anyways, that is one of my long-term plans. I don’t know how well it will pan out yet or if I’ll even be successful at it, but I’m laying the foundations for it now.

The culprit was Candace. Candace was slowing things down. Now that I’m self hosting, my server doesn’t have quite as much horsepower as Hostinger’s servers do so I really need to start being more mindful of image sizes and how different elements effect page load speed. Candace’s images were quite large. Even scaled down, it still loaded her images as though they were full size so I needed to actually scale down the file’s size and optimize it to make it significantly smaller. As soon as I did that and replaced her larger image files, the page loaded instantly.

The webring widget button directed people to a url that no longer exists. I’m surprised it took me this long to notice, but that’s fixed now.

The footer is still a work in progress and still a bit weird looking on some pages. I’m essentially working on an entire revamp for this subdomain and I doubt I will finish it all this month. Once all the other pages are revamped, the footer will be fixed.

I’ve recently made an account on Memoa to better share my Tamagotchi collections and keep track of it and I really like the sort of collector card scheme they have going on there. I sort of already had something similar going previous in my Tamagotchi Shrine where if you hover over an image of one of my tamas, it flips to show more info. So I’m just kind of expanding on that and making the templates consistent with my Memoa profile. If you have a Memoa profile and you collect digital pets, give me a follow and I’ll follow back!
